Brazilian music scene highlights various cultural events
The Brazilian cultural landscape features several notable musical and artistic events. Singer Maria Bethânia is being honored on TV Brasil’s ‘Sem Censura’ to celebrate her 80th birthday and six decades of career. During the tribute, she reflects on her origins in Santo Amaro and her early career milestone of joining the ‘Opinião’ show in 1965.
In Salvador, the pianists Katia and Marielle Labèque are set to perform with the NEOJIBA Orchestra at Teatro Castro Alves on November 19. The event will also feature the presentation of the 2026 Villa-Lobos Medal to NEOJIBA by the Brazilian Academy of Music.
Other upcoming performances include Almir Pessoa’s ‘Almir Pessoa In Concert’ at Teatro Goiânia, which blends traditional viola caipira with contemporary chamber music, and Julia Barros’s ‘Muito Intensas’ in Campinas, a voice and piano set dedicated to influential female Brazilian composers. Additionally, pianist Ingrid Barancoski will perform a repertoire inspired by childhood on Rádio MEC.
