Maria Bieșu International Opera and Ballet Festival returns for 34th edition

The 34th edition of the Maria Bieșu International Opera and Ballet Festival is scheduled to begin on September 6, 2026, at the Maria Bieșu National Opera and Ballet Theater. The festival will open with Gaetano Donizetti’s opera ‘Lucia di Lammermoor,’ directed by Paolo Bosisio and conducted by Nicolae Dohotaru.

The production features Romanian soprano Lorena Mărginean in the role of Lucia and tenor Paul Lungu as Edgardo. The festival, organized by the Ministry of Culture and the National Opera and Ballet Theater, will run through October 11, 2026, and is expected to host over 30 invited artists from 12 different countries.

The program includes 11 major events, such as ‘Otello,’ ‘La Traviata,’ ‘Madama Butterfly,’ and ‘Carmen,’ concluding with a Gala Concert on October 11.
