Maria Black designs 2026 breast cancer awareness ribbon
Danish jewelry designer Maria Black has designed the ‘Årets Sløjfe 2026’ (Ribbon of the Year 2026) for the organizations Støt Brysterne and Kræftens Bekæmpelse. The design aims to symbolize community and the invisible aspects of breast cancer.
Black noted a personal connection to the cause, stating that her mother, grandmother, stepmother, and several friends have been affected by the disease. The design features a classic pink front with darker contrasting colors on the back and along the edges to represent the different sides of the illness.
In Denmark, more than 5,500 women are diagnosed with breast cancer annually, making it the most frequent cancer among women in the country. While research and improved treatments mean 9 out of 10 women survive five years after diagnosis, many continue to live with long-term side effects. Sofie Gråbøl, an actress and volunteer vice president at Kræftens Bekæmpelse, emphasized that the ribbon serves as a vital symbol of support for research, prevention, and patient assistance.
