Maria do Carmo calls for interior development in Amazonas

Maria do Carmo, the Liberal Party (PL) pre‑candidate for governor of the Brazilian state of Amazonas, said political renewal should be judged by performance, not age. In an interview she outlined a development plan focused on expanding economic opportunities outside Manaus, investing in logistics infrastructure, restoring state highways, and extending technical assistance, credit and market access to small and medium producers. She pledged to protect the Zona Franca de Manaus while promoting bio‑economy, agro‑industry, fish farming, sustainable extraction and regional production.

The campaign also leverages a strong anti‑“old politics” narrative, accusing former governors Eduardo Braga and Omar Aziz, and allies of current governor Wilson Lima, of patronage and corruption. The discourse targets perceived misuse of public resources for family and party interests, framing the election as a fight against entrenched political practices.
