Maria do Carmo Seffair denies subpoena in video investigation
Maria do Carmo Seffair, a former candidate for the Governor of Amazonas, did not appear at the Specialized Police Station for the Protection of Children and Adolescents (DEPCA) in Manaus on Tuesday. While media reports suggested she was expected to testify regarding campaign videos, her legal team issued a statement asserting she had not been subpoenaed to provide testimony.
The defense clarified that her recent appearance at the police station was a voluntary action intended to present personal electronic devices to assist in the ongoing investigation. This investigation seeks to identify those responsible for producing and distributing videos during the 2026 election campaign that used images of the teenage daughter of Governor-elect Omar Aziz to make unproven criminal allegations.
The inquiry also involves members of Seffair’s marketing team. Previously, civil police conducted searches at addresses in Manaus and São Paulo linked to campaign members, including journalist Jefferson Coronel and advertiser George Wilde. Seffair’s lawyers expressed concern over the selective leaking of information from the investigation, which is intended to be confidential.
