Maria Domenica Conte disappearance: family holds memorial six years later

Family and citizens in Torella del Sannio will hold a torchlight procession in the Macchione area to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the disappearance of Maria Domenica Conte.

Ms. Conte, who was 82 years old at the time, was last seen on August 31, 2020, walking near her home with a cane. Despite extensive searches lasting nineteen days and subsequent investigations by the Prosecutor's Office, no trace of her has been found. While authorities previously investigated hypotheses including homicide and concealment of a corpse, the cases were ultimately archived in 2024.

Her daughter, Liliana Meffe, continues to seek answers, maintaining that her mother could not have wandered off alone due to her mobility issues. The family suspects she may have been involved in a hit-and-run accident where the driver subsequently removed her body.
