Maria Eleni Lykourezou discusses addiction and her mother's legacy

In a personal interview on the STAR program ‘Protos Kafes me ti Zina’, Maria Eleni Lykourezou discussed her history with addiction and the loss of her mother, the renowned film star Zoi Laskari.

Lykourezou revealed that she had been sober from drugs for 14 years at the time of her mother's passing. She noted that while she faced the immense pain of loss, she did not return to substance use, though she did consume small amounts of alcohol at the funeral.

She also recounted a life-threatening incident where an unknown substance was added to her drink. While she had already stopped using drugs, she was still consuming alcohol at the time. She lost consciousness outside her apartment building and was subsequently taken to Evangelismos Hospital by a passerby.

Reflecting on the nature of addiction, Lykourezou stated that it is not determined by material wealth but by emotional voids and a lack of perceived love. She also addressed the George Mazonakis case, maintaining distance from public rumors regarding his family.
