Maria Furtwängler marks 60th birthday with new Tatort episode

German actress Maria Furtwängler will celebrate her 60th birthday on September 13, coinciding with the return of the ARD crime series ‘Tatort’ after a 19-week summer hiatus. Her new episode, ‘König in Gelb’, features her character Charlotte Lindholm investigating a suspicious death in a specialized dementia village. The theme of dementia is personally significant for Furtwängler, as her father suffered from the disease.

In recent interviews, Furtwängler has also addressed industry trends, expressing concern over a perceived decline in interest regarding diversity and gender equality in film. She noted that while awareness exists, it is being pursued less aggressively, and highlighted the lack of roles for women as they age.

Additionally, ARD is introducing a change to its broadcasting tradition, making new ‘Tatort’ and ‘Polizeiruf 110’ episodes available in the ARD Mediathek for registered users two days before their Sunday night television premiere.
