Maria Kapnisi hospitalized after collapsing during AEK-PAOK match
Maria Kapnisi, captain of the AEK women's football team, collapsed following a match against PAOK at the Agioi Anargyroi stadium. After feeling unwell following the final whistle, she lost consciousness, prompting an immediate medical response on the pitch.
Initial assessments suggest the collapse was due to heatstroke. Kapnisi was transported to Agia Olga Hospital for medical examinations and necessary care.
The incident has reignited criticism from AEK regarding the match scheduling. Club representatives and player Deputy Chatzinikolaou expressed concerns that the midday kickoff time contributed to the dangerous conditions, noting that the club had previously requested an afternoon match time to avoid such risks.
