Maria Karystianou Blames Mitsotakis for Wildfire Deaths, Expands Party Team
Opposition leader Maria Karystianou launched a forceful attack on Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis after his remarks on the devastating wildfires that killed three firefighters. She accused the government of shirking responsibility, saying it treats citizens like "trash" and fails to protect the public.
Karystianou also announced the addition of three new figures to her party, Hope for Democracy, ahead of the expected 2027 elections. The newcomers – Michalis Christodoulidis, Giorgos Drosos and Kostas Mitrodimos – are intended to strengthen the party’s energy policy and civil‑protection agenda.
She warned that the lack of adequate political protection costs lives and called for substantial interventions to improve fire‑fighting resources and public safety.
