Maria Karystianou criticizes Greek government and announces new political program
Maria Karystianou, leader of the political entity ‘Elpida gia ti Dimokratia’, has issued a sharp critique of the Greek government regarding the recovery efforts following Storm Daniel. Marking three years since the catastrophic weather event, Karystianou highlighted the significant losses in plant, animal, and fixed capital in Thessaly and Northern Phthiotis. She criticized Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for an ‘unorganized command state’ and argued that necessary flood protection works, such as the construction of large and small dams, have not been sufficiently implemented to protect the region from future disasters.
In a separate development, Karystianou is scheduled to present the full political program of ‘Elpida gia ti Dimokratia’ at the Thessaloniki International Fair on September 10, 2026. The program is expected to detail the entity's positions on the rule of law, judicial strengthening, state transparency, and anti-corruption measures. Other key pillars of the presentation will include social protection, family, youth, health, education, protection of the primary residence, small and medium-sized enterprises, and labor rights.
