Maria Karystianou criticizes Greek officials over private meeting with Israeli journalists

Maria Karystianou, president of Elpida, has publicly criticized Greek Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis and other lawmakers following a dinner at the Athenian Club involving Israeli journalists and the Israeli Ambassador.

Karystianou raised concerns regarding transparency, characterizing the event as “secret diplomacy” conducted within “closed clubs.” She argued that the participation of Greek ministers and MPs in meetings with foreign lobbying groups in private settings is not a personal matter but a public concern. She further challenged Georgiadis’s stance on accountability, stating that politicians are responsible to the public sphere and the press daily, rather than only during elections.

In her statement, Karystianou also addressed allegations regarding her own business interests, claiming she has received information about leaks from the Ministry suggesting she holds shares in a company providing chemotherapy treatments without authorization. She described the situation as a “dirty war” and vowed to defend the truth.
