Maria Karystianou reports verbal attack by Nikos Plakias during Tempi fire trial
Maria Karystianou, leader of the Citizens' Movement “Hope for Democracy,” told media that she was subjected to a verbal attack by prosecutor Nikos Plakias while attending the 22nd hearing of the Tempi train‑fire trial in Larissa. She said all families of the victims are exhausted and that the courtroom atmosphere is far from pleasant.
Karystianou added that the trial is being delayed, noting that discussions are ongoing about moving the case to a later date in light of a European investigation into alleged financial fraud linked to the disaster. She reiterated that the responsible parties for the fire have not yet appeared in court and that the proceedings have become a televised spectacle.
The exchange between Karystianou and Plakias, captured on video, included the prosecutor’s remark “will I deal with you?” which Karystianou responded to sharply. The incident underscores ongoing tensions surrounding the judicial process for the 2023 Tempi tragedy.
