Maria Karystianou tours Achaia to discuss regional development and political reform
Maria Karystianou, president of the movement ‘Elpida gia tin Dimokratia’ (Hope for Democracy), is conducting a tour of the Achaia region in Greece. During her visit, she held meetings in West Achaia, Patras, and Aigio with local officials, agricultural representatives, and academic leaders.
In West Achaia, Karystianou met with Mayor Grigoris Alexopoulos to discuss regional challenges, including the impact of livestock losses due to disease, recovery from the August 2025 fires, and infrastructure needs such as the expansion of the Peneios Dam for irrigation.
In Patras, Karystianou outlined her political goals, emphasizing the need for a ‘reborn state’ focused on supporting the primary sector, combating the cost of living, addressing demographic issues, and ensuring accountability. She stated that her movement does not seek cooperation with systemic parties and ruled out the possibility of a non-governing period, asserting that the country must be governed correctly. She also criticized the ongoing legal proceedings regarding the Tempi railway accident, describing the fragmented trial process as a ‘parody trial’ due to the absence of certain defendants and charges.
