Maria Liegenfeld from Donnerskirchen has been crowned the new Austrian Wine Queen, known as Maria IV. The coronation took place during the Wine and Pleasure Festival in Eisenstadt.
Liegenfeld, who has served as the Burgenland Wine Queen since 2025, will act as an ambassador for Austrian wine both domestically and internationally. Her role involves participating in official events, tastings, and trade fairs to communicate the diversity of Austrian wine regions and the work of local family-run vineyards.
Johannes Schmuckenschlager, President of the Austrian Wine Association, described her as a competent and authentic representative of a younger generation who connects tradition with the future. A key focus of her tenure will be to spark interest in viticulture among younger audiences.
