Maria Luís Albuquerque pushes for European pension and capital market reforms
European Commissioner for Financial Services Maria Luís Albuquerque has called for increased political pressure to advance key financial reforms. Speaking before the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs in Brussels, Albuquerque criticized a reduction in ambition regarding the reform of complementary pensions.
The Commissioner set a goal to reach political agreements by the end of this year on three central dossiers: the capital markets integration and supervision package (MISP), complementary pensions, and securitization. She emphasized that mobilizing private capital is essential for European competitiveness, resilience, and strategic autonomy.
Additionally, Albuquerque confirmed that the European Commission is preparing a legislative package to alter European banking rules, scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. Regarding the MISP, she acknowledged substantial progress by Parliament but urged the maintenance of momentum to ensure markets can operate at the scale required by European companies.
