Maria Menounos shares struggles with Type 1 diabetes

Greek-American presenter and actress Maria Menounos has shared personal details regarding her ongoing battle with Type 1 diabetes, which she was diagnosed with in June 2022. Through Instagram Stories, the 48-year-old revealed the significant stress and dangers associated with managing the condition.

Menounos reported recent technical difficulties with her medical equipment, noting that both her insulin pen and backup needle had malfunctioned. She also mentioned that her father, who also has Type 1 diabetes, experienced issues with his continuous glucose monitor (CGM). She stated she is in contact with Medtronic to arrange for replacement devices.

In a dramatic disclosure, Menounos stated, “I almost died in my sleep the other day,” though she did not specify if the incident was caused by hypoglycemia or another complication. She described the daily management of the disease as “very, very stressful and scary.”
