Maria Moors Cabot 2026 Honors Journalists David Brooks and Daniel Coronell

The Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism announced the 2026 Maria Moors Cabot Awards. David Brooks, the U.S. bureau chief for Mexico's La Jornada, received a Special Mention for more than three decades of reporting that helps readers in Mexico and Latin America understand the United States, including in‑depth coverage of migration, border detentions and human‑rights issues.

Colombian journalist Daniel Coronell was awarded the Gold Medal for his distinguished career across Colombia and the United States. His investigative work has led to the removal or prosecution of high‑ranking officials, and he has faced persecution and exile while continuing to promote press freedom for Latino communities in the U.S. Both honorees exemplify the award’s focus on excellence and fostering inter‑American understanding.
