Maria Paula Vieira receives rare disease diagnosis after Tinder match

After nearly 30 years of searching for answers regarding chronic pain and skin sensations, communicator Maria Paula Vieira has received a diagnosis for a rare medical condition. The breakthrough occurred following a connection made on the dating app Tinder with Lucas, a medical student at the time.

During their friendship, Maria Paula described her lifelong symptoms, which included intense burning sensations in her hands and skin scaling. Lucas suggested she consult dermatologist Paulo Ricardo Criado, a professor at the Faculdade de Medicina do ABC.

Upon investigation, Dr. Criado identified a potential association between two rare conditions: Olmsted syndrome and primary erythromelalgia. Olmsted syndrome can cause skin thickening on the palms and soles, affecting mobility, while erythromelalgia causes redness, heat, and episodes of intense pain.
