Maria Riesch discusses decision to remain childless
Former Olympic ski champion Maria Riesch has spoken openly about her decision to remain childless. While she previously intended to start a family after retiring from professional skiing in 2014, she explains that the desire to become a mother never materialized as she transitioned into a life of greater personal freedom.
Riesch expressed frustration regarding social inquiries into her reproductive choices, describing such questions as “almost insolent,” particularly when they follow a simple statement that she does not have children. She emphasized that her decision is a conscious choice and distinguished her situation from women who struggle with infertility, noting that her choice is about enjoying her independence and her relationship with her partner, Johann Schrempf.
Currently, Riesch is in a relationship with Schrempf, a travel manager. While the couple has discussed the possibility of marriage, no formal plans have been made. She also continues to maintain a positive relationship with her former stepson from her previous marriage to Marcus Höfl.
