Maria Rita opens up on burnout and loss of mother Elis Regina

Brazilian singer Maria Rita explained that a severe burnout forced her to pause her career in 2024 after a truck carrying her show equipment was stolen. She described fearing to step onstage, saying she had "medo de dar boa noite para o público" and felt an existential crisis that kept her off the stage for two years. Rita returns with the tour "Redescobrir Vol. 2", which began on 18 January in Brasília and will run across Brazil until December, featuring her son Antonio Baldini on percussion and guitar.

In a separate interview she said she cannot listen to her mother Elis Regina’s songs because "não ouço porque dói. É um trauma, grosseiramente falando". She reflected on the lasting emotional impact of her mother’s death and how she is trying to pass the family legacy to her children while coping with the trauma.
