Maria Sakkari advances to China Open round of 32

Maria Sakkari has advanced to the round of 32 at the China Open after a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory over Australia’s Storm Hunter. The win, which lasted 73 minutes, allows the world No. 33 to progress in the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing.

Sakkari is set to face Elina Svitolina in the next round for a chance to reach the round of 16. Svitolina, ranked No. 7 globally, secured her spot in the third round by coming back from a set down to defeat Katerina Siniakova 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. Svitolina currently holds a 3-2 lead in head-to-head matchups against Sakkari.
