Maria Sakkari reaches Wuhan Open quarterfinals

Maria Sakkari has advanced to the third round of the WTA 1000 Wuhan Open in China. The Greek player secured her place in the round of 16 after defeating the eighth seed, Marta Kostyuk, in a three-set comeback victory with scores of 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Following her victory over Kostyuk, Sakkari faced 17-year-old Slovakian Mia Paukova, winning the match 6-1, 6-4 to secure a spot in the quarterfinals. The match against Paukova experienced a three-and-a-half-hour delay due to rain before Sakkari dominated the proceedings.

Other notable results from the tournament include Aryna Sabalenka's early exit following a loss to Ann Li, and Elena Ostapenko's victory over Daria Kasatkina. Sakkari is scheduled to face the winner of the match between Iva Jovovic and Magda Linette in the quarterfinals.
