Maria Sakkari advances to second round of Singapore WTA 500

Maria Sakkari has advanced to the second round of the WTA 500 tournament in Singapore after defeating Czech player Linda Fruhvirtova in straight sets. Despite a difficult start in the first set where she fell behind 0-2, Sakkari managed to recover, winning the first set 6-4 and dominating the second with a 6-1 scoreline.

Following her victory, Sakkari expressed satisfaction with her performance and her ability to execute her game plan. Her next opponent in the round of 16 will be Japanese qualifier Nao Hibino, who secured her place in the tournament by defeating Kristina Mladenovic.

This tournament marks Sakkari’s return to action in Asia following her second-round exit at the US Open. She enters the Singapore Open as one of the eight seeded players in the draw.
