Maria Shriver advocates for women's brain health awareness

Maria Shriver is advocating for increased awareness regarding brain health among women, noting that only one in five women are aware they are more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease than men.

Speaking at the TIME100 Health Leadership Forum in New York, Shriver emphasized the need to address brain health decades before symptoms appear. She highlighted research into how brain changes during menopause might impact Alzheimer’s risk and noted that brain and mental health should be discussed throughout every stage of a woman’s life.

Shriver, who founded the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement and co-founded the Comprehensive Women’s Health and Research Center at Cleveland Clinic, expressed her passion for the cause following her father’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis in 2003.
