Maria Shriver Hails Court Ruling Blocking Trump’s Kennedy Center Renaming
A federal judge ordered President Donald Trump to remove his name from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, ruling that only Congress can change the venue’s name. The decision also blocked the planned two‑year closure for renovations.
Maria Shriver, journalist and Kennedy family member, celebrated the ruling on X, calling it “a great birthday gift” for her late uncle, President John F. Kennedy. She noted the judge’s finding that the Kennedy Center’s organic statute requires the name to remain unchanged without congressional action. The lawsuit was filed by Rep. Joyce Beatty, an ex officio trustee, and the ruling was issued by Judge Christopher Cooper.
