Maria Timofeeva reports watch theft at WTA 1000 in Beijing

Tennis player Maria Timofeeva reported that her watch was stolen from the locker rooms during the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing. The incident occurred after Timofeeva left her bag unattended for approximately 10 minutes while taking a shower following her second-round match against Naomi Osaka.

Timofeeva shared the experience on social media, noting the irony of the theft occurring during a major tournament. She advised others never to leave tennis bags outside of locked lockers, even for a short duration. Following the incident, the player confirmed that the issue was resolved and she had recovered the watch, expressing gratitude to the tournament organizers.

This event follows previous personal security issues for the player, including a theft in Paris in May 2026 and unauthorized bank transactions in Madrid in 2024.
