Mariagerfjord Municipality proposes cuts to elderly care services
Proposed budget cuts for the 2027-2030 period in Mariagerfjord Municipality are facing criticism from local branches of Ældre Sagen. The proposals include closing the cafe at the Solgårdscentret in Arden, a move estimated to cost 600,000 DKK, and reducing activity center operations by one day per week across five centers, totaling a 1 million DKK saving.
Søren Jepsen, representing the coordination committee for the municipality’s four Ældre Sagen associations, argues these cuts will severely damage the social lives of elderly residents. The cafe at Solgårdscentret is described as a vital social hub for both residents and external visitors. Furthermore, the reduction in activity center days would effectively halve current service levels when combined with previous cuts, potentially isolating elderly citizens.
