Marian Kočner and Peter Tóth face court over journalist surveillance allegations
Marian Kočner and Peter Tóth appeared in court regarding allegations of organized surveillance of journalists and politicians. The prosecution alleges that between late 2016 and early 2017, Kočner commissioned Tóth to hire a team to gather private information for the purpose of discrediting specific individuals. The surveillance team reportedly received monthly payments between 1,000 and 1,500 euros and utilized vehicles provided by Kočner. The defendants have denied the charges, and the trial has been adjourned indefinitely due to the presiding judge's health concerns.
In a related legal development, prosecutors have filed charges against Monika Jankovská in connection with the ‘Zmenky’ (Promissory Notes) case. This follows the dismissal of prosecutions against two judges, Zuzana Maruniaková and Denis Cviková, who were previously accused of involvement in the same case. Investigations into Jankovská also touch upon the ‘Vodári’ case, involving allegations of attempting to influence judicial decisions through bribery and pressure.
