Marian Rojas Estapé warns of the impact of living life at “2X speed”
Spanish psychiatrist Marian Rojas Estapé has reflected on the modern tendency to live life at “2X speed,” a metaphor for the constant need to consume information and complete tasks as quickly as possible. During a recent conference, she noted that while this acceleration allows individuals to process large amounts of data, it often results in losing the nuances of experience.
Estapé highlighted habits such as listening to audio messages at double speed as examples of this phenomenon. She warned that by focusing only on the broad strokes of life to reach the next stimulus, people may remain perpetually busy yet feel increasingly disconnected from their actions and surroundings. She emphasized that the richness of daily life is often found in the small, subtle details that are missed when attention is solely focused on speed.
