Brazil municipalities initiate various social rights council elections

Various Brazilian municipalities are initiating processes to form or update municipal councils focused on social rights and equality.

In João Pessoa, the Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents (CMDCA-JP) has extended the registration period for civil society entities for the 2026-2028 biennium. The new deadline for applications is August 24, with elections scheduled for August 28.

Other regional developments include the inauguration of the Municipal Council for the Promotion of Racial Equality (COMPIR) in Mariana, aimed at strengthening anti-racism policies through social participation. Additionally, the Municipal LGBTQIA+ Council is organizing its electoral process for the 2026-2028 term to ensure representation from civil society. In Várzea Paulista, the Municipal Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities has opened applications to fill six substitute vacancies for the 2026/2027 biennium, with elections set for September 16.

In Bom Sucesso do Sul, an urgent indirect selection process has been launched to fill five substitute vacancies on the Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents for the remainder of the 2024/2027 mandate.
