Mariana Ledezma receives bone marrow transplant in US

Mariana Ledezma, a 19-year-old Costa Rican woman, has received a bone marrow transplant in the United States after a 507-day wait. The procedure involved the administration of hematopoietic stem cells via intravenous infusion.

Ledezma has been battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and suffered a relapse in February that affected her central nervous system. After failing to find a compatible donor, her father was identified as a match. The medical team at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, coordinated the transplant, which follows a conditioning treatment to prepare her body for the new cells.
