Mariana Mazzucato advocates for culture-driven green transition

Economist Mariana Mazzucato argues that a successful green transition requires more than just technological solutions and electrical grids; it must integrate culture, art, and local rituals to ensure people view ecological changes as part of a “good life.”

Mazzucato, the director of the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose at University College London, suggests that current climate strategies fail because they are disconnected from the essence of capitalism and the direction of economic growth. In her new book, “The Common Good Economy,” she posits that economic tools should be structured to foster human flourishing, joy, and well-being rather than focusing solely on growth rates.

She also emphasizes the need to prevent artificial intelligence from increasing inequality and stresses that technocratic plans often fall short without active community participation.
