Tucumán political tensions rise amid Peronist rift and new candidate announcements

Political tensions are escalating in Tucumán ahead of the May 2027 elections. Governor Osvaldo Jaldo has intensified a rift within the Peronist party by publicly disparaging Senator Juan Manzur. Jaldo used a press conference to label Manzur “pollerudo” following the senator's meeting with Cristina Kirchner, an act seen as an attempt to discredit Manzur's political standing.

In the provincial legislature, the ruling Peronist majority blocked an opposition attempt to immediately intervene in the Municipality of Graneros. The proposal, which cited institutional disorder and recent violence, was instead referred to the Constitutional Affairs Commission for further review.

Meanwhile, La Libertad Avanza is consolidating its presence in the province. The party has announced candidates for municipal roles, including Agustín “Ayo” Delacroix for Mayor of Yerba Buena and Constanza Cruz for Mayor of Monteros, both supported by gubernatorial candidate Lisandro Catalán.
