Mariano Corvalán sentenced to 10 years for attempted femicide

Mariano Corvalán, a former sergeant of the Entre Ríos Police, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for the attempted femicide of his former partner, Carolina Huck. The sentence was reached through an abbreviated trial presided over by Judge Tobías Podestá in Gualeguaychú.

The incident occurred in August 2025, when Corvalán used his service weapon to shoot Huck at their shared residence. Following the attack, Corvalán requested medical assistance for the victim and assisted in her transport to the hospital, but subsequently attempted to take his own life by shooting himself in the chin. Both survived the incident, though Huck suffered severe, irreversible physical consequences and remains in rehabilitation.

The abbreviated agreement was accepted by both the prosecution and the victim. Huck agreed to the sentence to avoid the emotional toll of a full trial, which would have required her to testify and potentially involve their daughter as a witness. By accepting the plea, Corvalán waived his right to appeal. He will remain incarcerated at the Unidad Penal Nº9 of Gualeguaychú.
