Mariazeller Gründerweg hiking route from Mautern to Seckau

A hiker recounts a modified itinerary on the Mariazeller Gründerweg due to severe weather warnings and heavy rain in early July 2025. After being unable to complete the original route starting from Sankt Lambrecht, the traveler opted to hike a section in reverse, traveling from Mautern to Seckau.

The planned trek from Mautern to Seckau was estimated to take approximately 7.5 hours. The route involves crossing the Liesing river, passing under the A9 motorway, and ascending via a forest road toward Bremstein. The journey included a stop at the Wilden Berg leisure park and utilized local public transportation, including trains and buses, to navigate between Knittelfeld, St. Michael, and Seckau.
