Maribor hosts Slovenia's national athletics championships with star performers Čeh and Šutej

Slovenian athletes gathered at the Poljane Stadium in Maribor on Friday and Saturday, 18‑19 June 2026, for the national athletics championships. Discus champion Kristjan Čeh, who recently threw 69.35 m in Estonia, competed and aimed to exceed 70 m ahead of the European Championships in Birmingham. Pole‑vault specialist Tina Šutej returned from a strong performance in Ostrava and prepared for the event despite recent Achilles concerns.

Other notable competitors included Anita Horvat, who opted for the 1500 m race, and record‑setter Matic Ian Guček, who entered after setting a new national record of 48.16 s in the 400 m hurdles. Sprinter Rok Ferlan targeted a sub‑46‑second finish in the 400 m, while several emerging athletes such as Anej Čurin and Nika Glojnarič vied for personal bests.
