Maribor Mayor Announces Subsidized Water Transport Amid Drought

The mayor of Maribor, Aleksander Saša Arsenovič, issued an order granting subsidised transport of drinking water by tanker to residents of the KS Kamnica area that lack public water supply. The subsidy, based on municipal statutes, runs from 27 July 2026 until the drought eases and water sources recover, at which point the order will be revoked.

In the nearby municipality of Kanal, mayor Miha Stegel imposed a strict water‑saving ban that forbids the use of drinking water for garden irrigation, vehicle washing, pool filling and other non‑essential purposes. The ban, effective from the end of July, follows prolonged drought, high temperatures and reduced river flows, prompting the import of water from Lig, Kambreško, Levpa, Ročinj and other locations. Compliance is monitored by the inter‑municipal police service.
