West Nile Fever cases and first death reported in Brazil FAST-MOVING
Brazil has confirmed at least four cases of West Nile Fever, including one death. In Santa Catarina, a 77-year-old woman died in Imbituba, and a 56-year-old man in Caçador was hospitalized with neurological symptoms before being discharged.
São Paulo has also recorded its first two human cases of the disease. One patient, a 34-year-old woman from Ribeirão Preto with a recent travel history to the Amazon, has recovered. The second case involves an 18-year-old resident of São José do Rio Preto who remains hospitalized.
Health authorities in both states are conducting epidemiological investigations to identify infection sites. The virus is transmitted to humans primarily through the bite of Culex mosquitoes, which infect after feeding on wild birds.
