Maricá launches microchipping and Animal ID program
The municipality of Maricá is launching a microchipping and registration initiative for cats and dogs. Through a dedicated event, pet owners can register their animals and obtain a new municipal Animal ID (RG Animal).
This initiative is part of the implementation of ConectaPet, a digital platform created by the City Hall to centralize services related to animal health, identification, and protection. The platform will also facilitate access to other services, such as registration for spay and neuter programs.
During the registration drive, animals will receive a free microchip. The device is a small, rice-grain-sized chip implanted under the skin that contains a unique code linked to the pet and owner's data. This technology is intended to increase the chances of reuniting lost pets with their owners and assist public authorities in managing vaccination, population control, and zoonosis prevention.
