Maricá municipal guard moves forward with armed deployment
The municipality of Maricá, Brazil, has begun the final stage of arming its municipal guard. Between July 18 and 21, all 385 officers will undergo mandatory psychological assessments required by the Federal Police before receiving institutional firearm permits.
Officers who pass the evaluations will enter a comprehensive training program covering legal frameworks, differentiated use of force, safe weapon handling, shooting fundamentals and both practical and theoretical examinations. The city also created the Grupo de Ocupação Democrática Armada do Território (GODAT) to coordinate the armed guard’s activities and strengthen territorial protection.
The initiative is part of broader security investments, including the construction of the Cidade da Segurança complex, which will house training facilities and a new Integrated Command and Control Center equipped with real‑time monitoring cameras.
