Maricá opens exhibition celebrating União de Maricá samba school

The city of Maricá has opened the “Carnavais da Utopia” exhibition at the Casa de Cultura to celebrate the history of the União de Maricá samba school. The exhibition traces the school's journey from its founding in 2015 to its recent achievement of winning the Série Ouro title, which secured its debut in the Rio de Janeiro Carnival Special Group for 2027.

Curated by artist and architect Gringo Cardia, the showcase features official costumes from previous parades, including those for mestre-sala, porta-bandeira, and community members. It also includes interactive elements such as music and dance experiences, as well as simulations of percussion instruments.

A central focus of the exhibition is the school's upcoming 2027 theme, “Utopia Brasil: Darcy Ribeiro.” The parade will honor the anthropologist, educator, and writer, highlighting his connection to Maricá and his reflections on the formation of the Brazilian people. The exhibition is scheduled to run until February 13, 2027.
