Director and screenwriter Marie Kreutzer discusses the role of music in her new film, ‘Gentle Monster’, which is currently showing in Austrian cinemas. The project, which began development in 2020, stars Léa Seydoux as a pianist named Lucy.

Kreutzer utilizes music as a primary source of inspiration during both the writing and filming processes. She noted that specific tracks, such as ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ by The Cure, were chosen to reflect themes of male emotional repression. The film also features ‘Yellow’ by Coldplay, selected for its ability to balance cheerfulness with melancholy.
