Marie Portolano testifies in defamation trial involving Pierre Ménès
Journalist Marie Portolano appeared before a Paris court regarding a defamation lawsuit filed by former Canal+ commentator Pierre Ménès. The legal action follows the March 2024 publication of Portolano’s book, ‘Je suis la femme du plateau’, in which she details allegations of sexual misconduct and inappropriate behavior.
During the proceedings, Portolano maintained her accounts of non-consensual physical contact, describing a ‘permanent avoidance strategy’ she used to deal with Ménès. She testified that he frequently touched her breasts and buttocks and recounted an incident where he allegedly lifted her skirt in front of others. Portolano also stated that her discomfort was met with laughter rather than respect.
Ménès was absent from the hearing after the court rejected his request for a postponement based on medical reasons. Portolano’s defense presented testimonies to corroborate her claims, including accounts from colleagues such as presenter Hervé Mathoux. A judgment is expected on November 4.
