Marie Rosa celebrates 111th birthday as Canada’s oldest resident

Marie Rosa, born in 1915, has become Canada’s oldest living person after celebrating her 111th birthday on September 17, 2026. She currently resides at The Village of Humber Heights retirement home in Etobicoke, Ontario.

Rosa attributes her longevity to a healthy diet rich in vegetables and a philosophy centered on love and happiness. Her daughter, Catherine Sinisalo, noted that her mother, a former seamstress and forewoman during World War II, always emphasized the importance of loving everyone regardless of their status, age, or background.

Staff at the retirement home, including regional coordinator Nathan Castaneda, described her as a joyful presence who encouraged others to live happy lives and share affection through hugs and kindness.
