Mariemont Theatre to reopen in Cincinnati after renovations

The historic Mariemont Theatre in Cincinnati is scheduled to reopen following a six-month renovation. The nonprofit film organization Cindependent, which took over operations in late January, will host a soft opening on August 28.

The initial lineup includes the films ‘Tony’, ‘The Brink of War’, ‘The Rivals of Amziah King’, and ‘Mary Oliver: Saved by the Beauty of the World’. To honor the theater’s 1938 origins, a month-long series of films from that year will be screened, accompanied by discussions led by University of Cincinnati film professors.

A formal grand reopening gala is set for September 16, featuring live music, street performers, and food stations. This event will also launch the annual Cindependent Film Festival. Renovations included rebuilding seats, repairing auditorium houses, and installing new equipment.
