Petar Bogojeski faces backlash for controversial remarks on women
Petar Bogojeski, leader of the Macedonian Concept political party, has sparked widespread condemnation following comments made during a television debate on TV Alfa. Bogojeski suggested that feminism has caused women to reject “male supervision” and argued that husbands should provide such oversight. He also characterized a husband’s reaction to infidelity as a defense of his dignity rather than violence.
Various organizations and public figures have responded to the remarks. Singer Tamara Todevska condemned the statements as hate speech, while the Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services (AVMS) denounced his views for relativizing violence against women and children. The Network for Protection against Discrimination also stated that no man has the right to exercise control over a woman and called for legal evaluation of whether his comments incite violence.
In a subsequent video address, Bogojeski stood by his positions, framing them as a defense of traditional family values and biblical teachings. He criticized critics for what he termed a breakdown of the nation’s moral system and called upon the Macedonian Orthodox Church to join the debate.
