Marijana Mikulić discusses inclusion challenges for her son with autism

Actress Marijana Mikulić has shared her experiences navigating the educational system as a mother of a child with autism. During an appearance on the show ‘Špica’, she recounted a difficult incident involving her son, Jakov, during a Christmas performance at a music and drama group.

Mikulić revealed that an educator suggested it might be better for her and her son to stay home rather than participate in the performance. Mikulić chose to advocate for her son, insisting he be given the opportunity to participate while she sat in the front row to manage the situation if he became disruptive.

Ultimately, Jakov participated in the performance, dancing and enjoying the event, which led to positive feedback from other attendees and even the educators involved. Mikulić highlighted the ongoing struggle parents of children with developmental disabilities face when interacting with educational institutions and emphasized the importance of providing inclusive opportunities.
