Marijana Puljak and Davor Matijević clash over domestic violence allegations

A political dispute has emerged in Split between Member of Parliament Marijana Puljak and City Councilor Davor Matijević. The conflict arose following Puljak’s comments regarding the National Day to Fight Violence against Women, observed on September 22.

Puljak criticized the local ruling majority in Split, noting that it includes a councilor who has been legally sanctioned for domestic violence. She specifically addressed Mayor Tomislav Šuta regarding Matijević’s involvement in the Hotel Zagreb repurposing project, arguing that political decisions involving such individuals institutionalize domestic violence and send a negative message to victims.

Matijević responded to the allegations by stating that he had previously received a 260 euro fine for using profanity during an argument via text messages. He accused Puljak of using his private and family life for political purposes and defended his conduct.
