Marileidy Paulino targets Diamond League title in Brussels
Dominican sprinter Marileidy Paulino is set to compete in the Diamond League final in Brussels, Belgium, on September 5. Paulino aims to reclaim the Diamond Trophy in the women’s 400 meters, a title she has held in 2022, 2023, and 2024. She enters the final following a perfect season, having won all five of her 400-meter races, including a recent victory in Silesia, Poland, and a Diamond League record set in Paris.
The championship follows a ‘winner takes all’ format, meaning the race winner will be crowned the season champion regardless of previous points accumulated. Paulino previously lost the title in a similar fashion to Bahrain’s Salwa Eid Naser.
To maintain her elite performance, Paulino follows a rigorous training regimen managed by coach Yaseen Pérez. Her preparation involves year-round training, often exceeding six hours of daily work divided into general, special, and competitive phases. This intensive preparation supports a competitive season that, despite months of physical conditioning and travel, consists of only a few minutes of actual racing time.
